Endlessly versatile, impressively stable, and infinitely fun are all great ways to describe the new Liberty Origin 101. The Origin line has been a favorite of many over the last few years, but some minor tweaks to the entire collection as well as this entirely new shape make them even more fun. The Origin 101 features the same lightweight and snappy profile that we're all used to from liberty, but this year the entire collection gets a bit of metal added to the core. Liberty incorporates VMT 1.0 into the Liberty line this year, which is essentially a strip of vertically laminated Aluminum Alloy that gets sandwiched between the wood laminates of the core This adds more of a backbone to the ski and gives it more power and stability without really adding any weight. At 101 millimeters under the boot, the Origin 101 sits in the sweet spot of versatility. It is narrow enough to feel reasonably quick edge to edge, but it is plenty wide enough to handle variable snow conditions from powder to crud to spring slush and everything in between. A generous rocker profile makes the ski very easy to release and smear into turns and gives the ski a very intuitive feel overall. Between their carving performance, their low swing weight and forgiving profile, the Origin 101 can jump between hard charging and leisurely cruising at the snap of your fingers. Skiers looking for a well-balanced all-mountain ski with playful tendencies will really enjoy the new Liberty Origin 101.
